Take Care Of Your Skin!

Each year, more and more people are diagnosed with skin cancer. It is more important than ever, during the upcoming long and hot summer days, that you take care of yourself… including your skin! And even though summer is technically still two months away, there is no denying that even now as the weather is warming up and days are getting longer, we are outside in sun quite often.

Here are some helpful tips to consider while sitting outside watching a ballgame or working around the yard. Please be careful!

  • If outside for an extended time, take shade periodically
  • Wear sun-protective clothing that covers as much of your body as possible
  • Put on a broad-brimmed hat that shades your face, neck and ears
  • Wear wrap-around sunglasses
  • Apply SPF 30+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen every two hours

Beware of Unethical Roofing Contractors

When big storms hit, some roofing “contractors” will promise to build you a cheap roof (that may leak in two years)! They might even promise to pay your insurance deductible (which, in many cases, equates to insurance fraud)! And when you try and contact them to repair their spotty work, you’ll find that they’ve disconnected their phone number. Then, you are left to pay out of your pocket for the repairs. In some situations, the roof may need to be replaced!

Don’t get scammed by unethical, fly-by-night contractors. Instead, call us! You will receive a thorough 17-point inspection and diagnostic of your entire roof, which will make you an “instant expert” on your roof. With Schneider Roofing and Remodeling you also get the absolute best roofing and customer service experience, and you receive the absolute best guarantees and warranties on the work performed on your home! Call 314-378-6623 to see how you can get your home back in order!

Five Reasons Why You Should Call Schneider Roofing and Remodeling After A Storm

What a mess!! A big storm rolls through town and hits your home hard, and your roof took an absolute beating. You’re missing shingles, which are now scattered all over your yard. Maybe, you’re facing an even more difficult situation, such as a hole in your roof and water is leaking into your home…

At Schneider Roofing and Remodeling, we’ve been serving our community for a long time. We have seen too many homeowners “take on” their insurance company after a big storm causes damage. They never seem to be satisfied with their claims or the repair to their home. Here are five reasons to give us a call and prevent the frustrations we have seen with so many others:

1. You Get a Thorough Evaluation! We won’t spend just a few minutes walking around your home or snapping pictures from a car to evaluate the damage of your roof and attic. Instead, you will get a complete 17-point inspection and diagnostic of your roof. We will get on your roof and in your attic to evaluate everything closely. That’s the best way to find hidden damage. The last thing you want is for an undiscovered problem to cause massive damage to your home months later!

 2. You’ll Know Your Options! After you’ve received a 17-point inspection and diagnostic of your roof, you will be given a variety of options. Hopefully, your roof only needs a simple repair. But if you require a new roof, you may be able to choose from a variety of shingles. Sometimes the insurance company will “adjust” your claim by calling for the lowest (and cheapest) grade roofing materials. After our inspection, you will know exactly what your roof needs.

3, You’ll Get Insurance Help! Once you’ve selected the best option for your home, your job is done! It’s time to let Schneider Roofing and Remodeling go to work for you! That means contacting your insurance company and explaining the work you would like (and need) performed on your home! We’ve been working with insurance companies for years, and we know how to get the roof that you want.

4, You Get Roofing Professionals! You will get the repair or new roof you want because we have experience dealing with insurance companies. They trust us because we’re licensed, insured, and all work is performed up to code. They also know that we’re customer service experts, and only the best people work for us. All employees are highly trained, drug tested, and background checked. You only get the best people and the best products when working with us!

5. You Get Long-Term Support! You also get roofing professionals that will be here to stand behind our work! We offer the absolute best guarantees and warranties! And should you have a question or issue, you can give us a call at any time, and we’ll be there immediately! This is our community, too! We take pride in making sure everyone is completely satisfied!

Beware of the Drive-By Roofer

out of town roofing companyMake the right decision when choosing a roofer.

When a storm blows through our area, it brings with it more than just high winds and damaging hail. It also brings the dreaded “Storm Chaser.” If your home’s roof is damaged by a storm, we wish to provide a word of caution as you go about the process of repairing or replacing your roof and dealing with the insurance company. We want to warn you to be wary of so-called Storm Chasers. Storm Chasers are dialed into the Weather Channel and whenever a storm hits they pack up and head to that area. They strike while the iron is hot and try to replace as many roofs as possible and then move to the next storm-ravaged area.

Now that’s all well and good, but they don’t necessarily care about the quality of the roof they install— they just want to replace as many roofs as humanly possible. Once the jobs dry up or their reputation is destroyed, they move on to the next storm-inflicted territory.

Unfortunately, many homeowners are left high and dry once Storm Chasers leave because they typically disconnect their local telephone number or their warranties are useless. If you have any problems after your roof is replaced you might even have trouble collecting your insurance check. Since many Storm Chasers carelessly slap on roofs, many manufacturer warranties are null and void, leaving you holding the bag.

What to do? Only call a qualified, professional roofer such as your friends at Schneider Roofing and Remodeling. We look out for your interests and will make sure that your roof—and your life—get back to normal after a storm. We live here and are proud of our reputation as a quality service provider who stands behind our work!

Springtime Storm Reminder

Should Something Happen to Your Roof, Make Us One of Your First Calls!

wind-damage-1Spring is almost here and brings with it some of the most active storm months. Storms can mean “bad news” for your roof! You might be faced with leaks, missing shingles, or some other type of damage. If that’s the case, give us a call!

Areas that are hit by large storms are often the first targeted by storm chasers. These storm chasers can be contractors from hundreds of miles away, who rush to areas hit by storms. Often, their only goal is to replace as many roofs as possible, collect as much money as possible, and then leave as quickly as possible.

Few storm chasers put any type of value on customer service, roof quality or craftsmanship. Speed is their primary concern. And in a year or two, when a big rain hits and a few leaks pop up, you’ll call them only to find a disconnected number! That is something you will never have to worry about with Schneider Roofing and Remodeling. We’re from here. This is our town. We value great work, and in the uncommon occurrence that a problem arises, we’ll be right here to fix it.

There’s another reason why you will want to call us should something happen to your roof: we have a long history of working with insurance companies. We will be more than happy to meet with your insurance adjuster as he/she evaluates your property. We can act as an advocate for YOU, so you receive the absolute best outcome with your claim. Often, we can point out things to an adjuster that they may have missed, and as a result, you benefit!

We hope you don’t have to call us with an emergency from a springtime storm, but if you do you will know that your interests are our first priority. You can count on us to provide you with excellent, long-lasting customer service!

Have Some Family Fun During Your Spring Break

family picSpring is almost here! For many, this time of the year means a trip to some remote beach to enjoy the nice warm sun! However, if you’re like most families, that may not be in the budget this year. And that’s okay! That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take that time off and enjoy the changing temperatures. Here are some great things you can do on your very own Spring Break at home! Even better, these are family-fun activities!

  • Start a small garden. Let your kids pick an herb, flower, or a vegetable (or one of each) and plant them from seeds in small pots on a windowsill. It’s a great way to teach them where all their veggies come from and show them how easy it is to start their own garden.
  • Picnics outside (weather permitting) are an excellent way to get some fresh air. The best thing to do is to go for a hike and pack a lunch. When you get to your destination, enjoy the views while you savor your PB&J’s or whatever else you brought. Lunches really do taste best when eaten outdoors.
  • Go for a bike ride. Find an interesting route to take and go sight-seeing on a bike.
  • Volunteer in your local community. For older kids, it’s important to show them how they can get involved in their community and volunteer. There are plenty of organizations looking for some help, and many of the duties may be outside, so you can continue to enjoy that bright spring sunshine!
  • Build something. Bird houses, tree houses, sandboxes, mazes, swings, and other cool things! The sooner you can show your kids how to be handy, the better. When they grow up, they won’t be afraid to try and tackle other projects on their own!
  • Discover. Be a tourist in your own town. Go online and look up some fun things to do that you’ve never done. The only rule? You can’t go anywhere you’ve been before. You likely will find some incredible activities that you didn’t know existed or wish you would have visited many years prior!
  • Go camping. If it’s warm enough, pick a site to go camping – this will take you out of your normal surroundings and focus all your attention on the family. Invite other families to come along for a fun and exciting adventure!
  • Farmers market day. Take a field trip to your local Farmer’s market and have the kids help pick out tonight’s dinner. They’ll love choosing the brightly colored fruit and vegetables. When you get home, they can be your assistant chefs in the kitchen and help you put it all together.

Well, this should be enough ideas to get you started on planning an incredible spring break with your kids. Keep in mind: Many of these activities don’t require a lot of time! So, even if your kids have time off for Spring Break and you don’t, you can still squeeze one or two in! You can never have enough quality family time!

Beware of Leaks around Roof Boots

roof bootsThere is a potentially dangerous and costly problem lurking in our neighborhoods. It has to do with what we call “roof boots.” They are the coverings that go over the vent pipes that stick out of your roof. Many of them have been allowing rain and melted snow to leak into homes.

Every home has plumbing vent pipes. These pipes run up from a kitchen or bathroom and out through your roof. The problems arise when the coverings around these pipes peel up or get shifted with the natural movements that occur on your roof from expansion and contraction. Some roof boots can move with your roof – but not the type that most builders put on homes. In fact, the ones used on many are the cheap, ineffective kind. That means that it’s not a matter of “if,” but “when” these roof boots fail and water starts leaking into your home.

If your roof boot covering fails, rain water will leak into your home and travel along the vent pipe. This is where the problems begin. The average amount of damage to homes from water is about $5,000! Damage can occur to expensive hardwood floors, walls and ceilings, and to “hidden” areas behind walls, such as insulation and drywall. Not only could this run in the tens of thousands of dollars to clean up and repair, but it promotes the growth of mold and mildew, which can have dangerous health consequences.

Routine roof inspections will identify the health of your roof boots and allow for replacement before leaking occurs. This is an inexpensive proactive measure to save you lots of worry and potentially money. Give us a call to schedule an inspection. Let us make sure your roof boots are functioning properly, as well as inspect the entire roof.

Keep Warm When It’s Cold Outside!

With all this cold weather, I can’t help but put this out there for all of you! Here’s a great winter recipe that will take less than an hour to make!

Ingredients
Soup 1 3 ½ cups potatoes, peeled and diced
• 1/3 cup diced celery
• 1/3 cup finely chopped onion
• ¾ cup diced cooked ham
• 3 ¼ cups water
• 2 tablespoons chicken bouillon granules
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 1 teaspoon ground pepper
• 5 tablespoons butter
• 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• 2 cups milk

Directions
1. Combine potatoes, celery, onion, ham and water in a stockpot. Bring to a boil then cook over medium heat until potatoes are tender, about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in chicken bouillon, salt and pepper.
2. In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium-low heat. Whisk in flour with a fork and cook, stirring constantly until thick, about 1 minute. Slowly stir in milk as to not allow lumps to form. Continue stirring over medium-low heat until thick, about 4 to 5 minutes.
3. Stir milk mixture into the stockpot and cook soup until heated through. Serve immediately.
