Roof Damage by Hail

Here in Missouri, we are no strangers to hailstorms. The information in this article is provided by the National Storm Damage Center (www.stormdamagecenter.org).

By definition, hail damage is any damage resulting from hailstones and hailstorms. Hailstones that are 0.75 inches or greater are large enough to cause substantial damage to homes, automobiles & property. For comparison, 0.75 inches is the diameter of a penny.

You may think that just because you can’t see any signs of damage, or because your roof isn’t leaking, you don’t have damage. Remember, hail damage can be particularly difficult to identify and many homeowners discover major roofing damage years down the road, after it’s too late to file a storm damage claim with their insurance company. If you have any reason to suspect hail damage after a storm, you should have a full property damage inspection performed by a reputable contractor right away.

Roofs are the most commonly damaged part of a home or business in hailstorms. A damaged shingle may allow water to seep through the roof causing additional damage to the roof deck, support structure, interior walls, or windows, and can cause leaking, staining on walls and flooding inside your home. Leaking roofs lead to costly damages and many insurance policies have strict time limits on submitting claims after hailstorms, so it’s in your best interest to act fast after hailstorms and start the repairs process, if necessary.

Siding damage often results from wind-driven hail. The three most common signs of damage to siding are cracking, chipping and holes.

Window damage is similar to siding damage, but usually more obvious to identify. Wind-driven hail can strike windows and break the glass itself, or cause damage to the seals on the windows.

Exterior appliances can also sustain damage in hailstorms. Denting and intake of excessive amounts of water often affect HVAC units after severe hail.

Hail damage can be very difficult to detect and often occurs to roofs, siding and windows, all of which are difficult DIY repair projects that could void your homeowners insurance or manufacturer warranty, if not performed by a licensed contractor. Due to the risks associated with hail damage, it is recommended to cut to the chase have a storm damage repair contractor inspect your damages right away.

Helpful Information About Insurance Claims

homeowners insuranceThere is a Missouri law that was passed in 2012 that is important for homeowners to know about.

This law prohibits contractors from offering to pay for any portion of the homeowner’s insurance deductible. Contractors are specifically prohibited from granting allowances to the insured, offering any discount against the fees to be charged, or paying the insured (or any person) directly or indirectly any form of compensation (including gifts, prizes, bonuses, credits, referral fees, or anything of monetary value).

Additionally, homeowners must be given the contractual right to cancel the contract prior to midnight on the fifth business day if any part of the insurance claim is not covered following written notice by the insurance company. This notice is considered given by the homeowner on the date of the mailing, not the date of receipt by the contractor. A statement notifying the consumer of their right to cancel must be printed in boldface type on the contract and should include a form to be mailed in if the homeowner wishes to cancel the contract. If the contract is canceled, the contractor must return amounts paid, minus payment for any clean up work that may have taken place.

Five Financial Benefits of Spring Cleaning

spring cleaningSpring cleaning is something thousands of households across the country participate in. During the chilly winter months, it’s easy for dust and clutter to overwhelm your home and sanity. This year, you can combine your spring-cleaning strategies with your big-picture financial objectives. Here are five ways that spring cleaning can help you save some big money.

1.Reduce taxes. Have piles of clothes that you’re planning on ditching? Well, when you drop off your old sweatpants and T-shirts at your local charity, keep a total of how much you’re giving. If you don’t have a receipt, be sure to ask for one!2. Get better organized.Speaking of taxes, make it a point to start organizing all of your financial documents, especially donations. It will make tax time a breeze. You also will likely notice that you’re taking full advantage of any tax incentives or deductions that you can make. Often people forget the different organizations they’ve contributed to.
2. Get better organized. Speaking of taxes, make it a point to start organizing all of your financial documents, especially donations. It will make tax time a breeze. You will also likely notice that you’re taking full advantage of any tax incentives or deductions that you can make. Often people forget throughout the year the different organizations they’ve contributed to.

3. Keep an inventory.
Like most households, you probably forget just how much stuff you have shoved in closets and under sinks. Make a conscious effort of tracking

down and documenting what you have. Often people overbuy certain items they don’t believe they have, but really do.

4. Fix it up.
Cleaning gives you a chance to evaluate your home. Notice and fix any little problems now, before they become much bigger and require you to hire a handyman or a contractor for help. You could save hundreds over time.

5. Sell it.
Fill a box (or two or three) of any items that you really don’t use anymore. Explore selling them at yard sales, second-hand stores or online. You might be shocked the value of the stuff just lying around your home.

Spring Storms

Your Spring Storm Reminder

It’s definitely not pleasant to think of, but it’s a reality in life that all homeowners must face during these Spring months. These are some of the most active storm months. Storms can mean “bad news” for your roof!

You might be faced with leaks, missing shingles, or some other type of damage. If that’s the case, please, be sure to call us!

Areas that are hit by large storms are often the first targeted by storm chasers. You’ve likely heard me talk about storm chasers before or read about them in this publication! Storm chasers can be “contractors” from hundreds of miles away, even from out of state, who rush to areas hit by storms.

Often, their only goal is to replace as many roofs as possible, collect as much money as possible, and then leave as quickly as possible. Few storm chasers put any type of value into customer service, roof quality, or craftsmanship. Speed is their only concern. And in a year or two, when a big rain hits and a few leaks pop up, you’ll call them only to find a disconnected number!

That’s something you never have to worry about with Schneider Roofing and Remodeling. We’re from here. This is our town. We value great work, and in the uncommon occurrence that a problem arises, we’ll be right there to fix it!

There’s another reason why you will want to call us soon, should something happen to your roof: We have a long history of working with insurance companies! We will be more than happy to meet with your insurance adjuster as they evaluate your property. We can act as an advocate for YOU, so you receive the absolute best outcome with your claim! Often, we can point out things to an adjuster that they may have missed—as a result, you benefit!

At Schneider Roofing and Remodeling, we hope that you don’t have to call us for any emergencies created by nasty storms. Just in case one does occur, and you need help, be sure to have our number handy: 314-378-6623. Remember, your interests are our first priority! And you can count on us to provide you with excellent, long-lasting customer service!

Keep Your Home Safe With A Roof Inspection

roof inspectionIt’s easy to take your roof for granted. When it rains, you know that you’re not going to get wet. When the hot summer sun shines, you know that you will stay shaded and comfortable. When the wind blows, you don’t have to worry about a chill running through your body. However, when a roofing problem appears, it can drastically interrupt your life!

In some cases, roofing problems can lead to big messes. For example, if you leave town for several days and a leak appears, you’re not able to stop the water damage to your home before it’s too late. And then there are the slow, small leaks — they can cause water damage in your attic and they can allow mold to grow.

Everyone’s dependence on their roof is why Schneider Roofing and Remodeling recommends having it inspected at least once a year. Believe it or not, over that short period of time your roof can change drastically. Shingles may have fallen off exposing your underlayment. Water may have begun seeping into your attic. Sun may have caused segments of your roof to fry. Anything is possible.

Call us at Schneider Roofing and Remodeling for an inspection. If you’ve noticed some odd things going on with your roof, this offer is meant especially for you! When your roof is in good shape, it means that it’s not interrupting your life and causing you headaches. Call 314-378-6623 or click here to email us for a comprehensive inspection from Schneider Roofing and Remodeling!

Do You Know Your Roofing Contractor?

Don’t Be the Homeowner on TV or in the Newspaper Telling about How You Were Taken Advantage of!!

It’s a shame what happens to some good, hardworking people. I just read another report of a heating and cooling contractor (in another community, mind you) taking advantage of their customers. The work they were providing was shoddy, and when customers complained, the contractor didn’t return calls or wasn’t interested in remedying the problem. No, they kept their customers’ hard-earned money and didn’t give these poor homeowners another thought.

Eventually, these shady contractors were discovered by the news media and their poor business practices were exposed. Still, that doesn’t help the customers who they already fleeced. They were forced to spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to repair their problems… That’s on top of what they already spent!

You’re likely one of our cherished clients, or maybe you’re a friend we’ve met along the way. Either way, you know our commitment to premium customer service. It’s not just lip service. It’s something we take great pride in providing. Specifically, when working with Schneider Roofing and Remodeling, you know that you’re getting a company that is:

  • Offering industry-best guarantees and warranties in writing.

When you call Schneider Roofing and Remodeling to your home, you will be given options when possible! You are in control of your home and your roof. Take Care Of Your Skin!

Each year, more and more people are diagnosed with skin cancer. It is more important than ever, during the upcoming long and hot summer days, that you take care of yourself… including your skin! And even though summer is technically still two months away, there is no denying that even now as the weather is warming up and days are getting longer, we are outside in sun quite often.

Here are some helpful tips to consider while sitting outside watching a ballgame or working around the yard. Please be careful!

  • If outside for an extended time, take shade periodically
  • Wear sun-protective clothing that covers as much of your body as possible
  • Put on a broad-brimmed hat that shades your face, neck and ears
  • Wear wrap-around sunglasses
  • Apply SPF 30+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen every two hours

Beware of Unethical Roofing Contractors

When big storms hit, some roofing “contractors” will promise to build you a cheap roof (that may leak in two years)! They might even promise to pay your insurance deductible (which, in many cases, equates to insurance fraud)! And when you try and contact them to repair their spotty work, you’ll find that they’ve disconnected their phone number. Then, you are left to pay out of your pocket for the repairs. In some situations, the roof may need to be replaced!

Don’t get scammed by unethical, fly-by-night contractors. Instead, call us! You will receive a thorough 17-point inspection and diagnostic of your entire roof, which will make you an “instant expert” on your roof. With Schneider Roofing and Remodeling you also get the absolute best roofing and customer service experience, and you receive the absolute best guarantees and warranties on the work performed on your home! Call 314-378-6623 to see how you can get your home back in order!

Five Reasons Why You Should Call Schneider Roofing and Remodeling After A Storm

What a mess!! A big storm rolls through town and hits your home hard, and your roof took an absolute beating. You’re missing shingles, which are now scattered all over your yard. Maybe, you’re facing an even more difficult situation, such as a hole in your roof and water is leaking into your home…

At Schneider Roofing and Remodeling, we’ve been serving our community for a long time. We have seen too many homeowners “take on” their insurance company after a big storm causes damage. They never seem to be satisfied with their claims or the repair to their home. Here are five reasons to give us a call and prevent the frustrations we have seen with so many others:

1. You Get a Thorough Evaluation! We won’t spend just a few minutes walking around your home or snapping pictures from a car to evaluate the damage of your roof and attic. Instead, you will get a complete 17-point inspection and diagnostic of your roof. We will get on your roof and in your attic to evaluate everything closely. That’s the best way to find hidden damage. The last thing you want is for an undiscovered problem to cause massive damage to your home months later!

 2. You’ll Know Your Options! After you’ve received a 17-point inspection and diagnostic of your roof, you will be given a variety of options. Hopefully, your roof only needs a simple repair. But if you require a new roof, you may be able to choose from a variety of shingles. Sometimes the insurance company will “adjust” your claim by calling for the lowest (and cheapest) grade roofing materials. After our inspection, you will know exactly what your roof needs.

3, You’ll Get Insurance Help! Once you’ve selected the best option for your home, your job is done! It’s time to let Schneider Roofing and Remodeling go to work for you! That means contacting your insurance company and explaining the work you would like (and need) performed on your home! We’ve been working with insurance companies for years, and we know how to get the roof that you want.

4, You Get Roofing Professionals! You will get the repair or new roof you want because we have experience dealing with insurance companies. They trust us because we’re licensed, insured, and all work is performed up to code. They also know that we’re customer service experts, and only the best people work for us. All employees are highly trained, drug tested, and background checked. You only get the best people and the best products when working with us!

5. You Get Long-Term Support! You also get roofing professionals that will be here to stand behind our work! We offer the absolute best guarantees and warranties! And should you have a question or issue, you can give us a call at any time, and we’ll be there immediately! This is our community, too! We take pride in making sure everyone is completely satisfied!

Beware of the Drive-By Roofer

out of town roofing companyMake the right decision when choosing a roofer.

When a storm blows through our area, it brings with it more than just high winds and damaging hail. It also brings the dreaded “Storm Chaser.” If your home’s roof is damaged by a storm, we wish to provide a word of caution as you go about the process of repairing or replacing your roof and dealing with the insurance company. We want to warn you to be wary of so-called Storm Chasers. Storm Chasers are dialed into the Weather Channel and whenever a storm hits they pack up and head to that area. They strike while the iron is hot and try to replace as many roofs as possible and then move to the next storm-ravaged area.

Now that’s all well and good, but they don’t necessarily care about the quality of the roof they install— they just want to replace as many roofs as humanly possible. Once the jobs dry up or their reputation is destroyed, they move on to the next storm-inflicted territory.

Unfortunately, many homeowners are left high and dry once Storm Chasers leave because they typically disconnect their local telephone number or their warranties are useless. If you have any problems after your roof is replaced you might even have trouble collecting your insurance check. Since many Storm Chasers carelessly slap on roofs, many manufacturer warranties are null and void, leaving you holding the bag.

What to do? Only call a qualified, professional roofer such as your friends at Schneider Roofing and Remodeling. We look out for your interests and will make sure that your roof—and your life—get back to normal after a storm. We live here and are proud of our reputation as a quality service provider who stands behind our work!
